A birthday, an injury and a relay

It has been just over a week since my birthday and what a topsy turvy week it has been! I woke up on the morning of my 24th with an injured knee and some beautiful birthday messages rolling in. In the days since, I have had high moments, none involving painkillers, I promise, and some low ones, specifically when I was told I had ruptured my ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) and would need a knee reconstruction. 

My birthday was still great as I spent most of the day lying on the couch with an ice pack on my knee and lovely friends bringing me coffee, food, beautiful cards and hard drives filled with hilarious shows (watch The IT Crowd - don't ask questions, just do it).

I ended up going to Billy Lee's for dinner, albeit with a nice looking limp, followed by a few cheap laughs at The Laugh Resort comedy night at Rosie O'Grady's.  It was a random night with some of my favourite people to celebrate making it to 24 in one piece - almost.

This week also saw my netball club, Morley Districts, taking part in Relay for Life, an event that requires teams to walk for 24 hours in a bid to raise much needed funds for cancer research.

 It's a cause close to our hearts as our head coach, Sandy, is a cancer survivor and nearly everyone I know has been affected one way or another by cancer.

I could only do a few laps due to my injury but I acted as self appointed masseuse when the girls didn't think their legs could carry them any further. The dedication from the whole team was astounding, with some girls doing nearly 30km of walking in the 24 hour period!

Needless to say, spending a cold night outside, with only each other, a plethora of extremely mismatched winter clothes and a swag was not ideal, but it was well worth it as we raised nearly $5000 for cancer research. Super proud!
